Suspect charged with attempted murder in Clive motel stabbing

CLIVE, Iowa — Police say a Des Moines man has been charged with attempted murder for a stabbing that happened early Friday morning at a Clive hotel.
Wa’il Muhannad, 62, is being held in the Polk County Jail, according to Clive Police.

Officers and medics responded to the Days Inn Motel at 1600 NW 114th Street at 3:29 a.m. on a report of a stabbing. Dakarai Jackman, 28, was found in the outer yard of the motel suffering from serious wounds caused by a large knife. Police say the knife was recovered at the scene.
Police said Jackman was transported to Methodist Hospital and underwent surgery for substantial injuries, but he is expected to recover.
Muhannad initially fled the scene of the stabbing on foot but police found him a short distance away and he was detained without incident. He was transported to the hospital for observation and then released into police custody.
The investigation so far shows Muhannad and Jackman were acquainted and the stabbing was the result of a physical altercation between the two at the hotel.
The investigation into the case continues.
The charge of attempted murder is a Class B Felony.
Clive, Urbandale, and West Des Moines Police, Clive EMS, West Des Moines EMS all responded to the scene. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Polk County Attorney’s Office are also working on the case.
