'Sacred responsibility': After 20 years, Bemidji Veterans Home opens with a long wait list
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Veterans in northern Minnesota now have a new place to call home. At a dedication ceremony Monday attended by Gov. Tim Walz, Sen. Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Pete Stauber, the crowd gave unending applause to officials and advocates who made the longtime dream of a veterans home here a reality. But gratitude extended mostly to the residents who served in the military and the staff who are dedicated to serving the region's aging veterans.

20-year-old Cloquet man kayaks solo around Lake Superior
Cale Prosen has finished a pretty amazing feat. He circumnavigated around Lake Superior in a kayak, alone, returning home on June 22nd. It took him 42 days. PAUL, Minn. — A motion filed Wednesday by Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison claims tobacco manufacturers owe the state tens of millions of dollars.A 1998 settlement restricted the largest tobacco manufacturers' marketing of tobacco products and required they make annual payments to Minnesota.Ellison alleges that after a federal corporate tax rate change in 2018, Philip Morris misrepresented the content of the settlement to the third-party payment administrator.The settlement says manufacturers' annual payment increases if their current after-tax profits are greater than in 1997. However, manufacturers argue they should get to recalculate their 1997 profits by applying modern corporate tax....
