Thomas Randall Miller is 78 years, and his six years in the U.S. Army are more than 50 years in his rearview. That doesn’t make them any less memorable. Miller, who moved to Russellville in October 2020 to be equidistant from his daughters, graduated from high school in 1963 and got into the trucking business. The draft was on the horizon. “I knew eventually it was going to happen, and ’68 was the worst year for the Vietnam year,” he said. “We knew it was coming.” Miller said he was willing to serve. “I was kind of looking forward to the Army,” he said. “My dad served in World War II in the Pacific Theater, and I’ve always appreciated the armed services and had no problem with going.”

On Monday, 2026 five-star interior offensive lineman Lamar Brown listed Alabama as one of 12 finalists to land his commitment. Several SEC schools that also made the cut were Ole Miss, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers, and Tennessee Volunteers. Brown plays for University Lab School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Alabama DC Kane Wommack defines success for Crimson Tide’s defense in 2024
Nick Saban carried the torch on defense for Alabama football in Southeastern Conference and college football for 17 years. He hired stellar coordinators such as Kirby Smart, Jeremy Pruitt, and Kevin Steele, but Saban was the architect. He chose to retire from coaching on Jan. 10 and Kalen DeBoer was hired to be Saban’s successor. Kane Wommack, 37, decided to leave his head coaching position at the University of South Alabama to join DeBoer as the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator.
