    July 4 fire comes within feet of Clovis Recreation Center

    CLOVIS, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Clovis Recreation Center escaped damage Thursday night after a fire came within 60 feet of the city-run facility.

    According to the Clovis Fire Department, the fire was reported around 9:30 p.m. at an area near the facility, in the area of Clovis Avenue and Ashlan Avenue.

    Officials say the size of the blaze required a second fire unit to help control the flames.

    The fire department reports that the fire was kept from the building and it was not damaged. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

    In a statement to YourCentralValley.com, the Clovis Fire Department gives credit to the city’s aggressive weed abatement program which ensured that properties with dry grass are mitigated ahead of the Fourth of July.
