First Bird, Additional WNV Mosquito Cases Detected in Will County
The Will County Health Department’s Environmental Health division announced additional batches of mosquitoes and a dead bird have tested positive for West Nile Virus [WNV]. Mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV have been found in Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood, and Lockport. A dead bird that tested positive for WNV was found in Crest Hill. Will County residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases. No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported so far this year.
Forest Preserve Programs Highlight Joliet History, Braidwood Dunes, Backpacking
Here are the Forest Preserve District of Will County programs for the week of July 22. Online registration is available on the Event Calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org. Joliet Iron Works Tour – two 90-minute sessions at 2 and 5 p.m., Thursday, July 25, Joliet Iron Works Historic Site, Joliet: Explore the stone foundations of Joliet’s once-thriving industrial plant that are more than 100 years old. An interpretive naturalist will share the fascinating stories of the men and machines who worked at the site, which once rivaled Pittsburgh’s steel power. Free, ages 16 or older. Register by July 23.
