Parts of northern Illinois shook Monday as a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the early morning hours. The earthquake was centered northwest of the DeKalb County village of Somonauk. The Will County Health Department’s Environmental Health division announced additional batches of mosquitoes and a dead bird have tested positive for West Nile Virus [WNV]. Mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV have been found in Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood, and Lockport. A dead bird that tested positive for WNV was found in Crest Hill. Will County residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases. No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported so far this year.
