The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are supporting residents affected by flooding throughout the QCA. The organizations will distribute potable water and flood cleanup kits. Distribution will take place on Wednesday, July 24 and Friday, July 26 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Residents can pick up the items at the following locations at those time:

Quad-Cities Volunteer Fire Chiefs Worried About Implementing Proposed OSHA Rules
Moline Dispatch and Rock Island Argus, Ill. Jul. 20—A proposed workplace safety rule change could have significant impacts on local fire departments. An Occupational Safety and Health Administration rule, the Fire Brigades standard was first put into effect in 1980. According to the OSHA website, the safeguards in this rule are inadequate and outdated for safeguarding against the full range of hazards faced by emergency responders.

Softball: Oregon Avalanche 14U team concludes successful summer
OREGON - The Oregon Avalanche 14U travel team wrapped up the season by placing second in the C Division at the USSSA Illinois/Iowa Tournament held in Moline on June 29-30. "The coaches are immensely proud of the hard work and determination that these girls have put into their season,” coach Lynn Kalnins said. “Many balance a full schedule of other sports, activities and school and still commit time to improving their skills on the field. Our organization is not like most of the teams we face at these larger scale tournaments. Most teams play with players from multiple communities that do not continue on to high school together.”

It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
