Man, 79, killed after tire blowout along I-95 in Cocoa

Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a tire blowout that claimed the life of a 79-year-old driver early Tuesday along Interstate 95 in Cocoa. The roadway remains open.

The crash was reported about 11:45 a.m. near mile marker 204 in Cocoa.

A preliminary investigation shows that the 2005 Nissan Titan was northbound on the interstate when the tire rupture happened, causing the unidentified driver to overcorrect, troopers reported.

The vehicle rotated and then flipped over repeatedly, ejecting the driver, a Clewiston resident, reports show. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene. A 47-year-old passenger also in the vehicle was not injured, troopers reported.

An investigation is ongoing.
