Colchester, VT – Colchester’s annual Independence Day parade entered its 53rd year this Fourth of July. This year’s parade was held in honor of State Senator Dick Mazza of Colchester, who passed away in May.

The parade included floats from several community organizations, local businesses and politicians. Youth organizations like local scout troops and sports teams got in on the action too, including Colchester’s own District 1 Little League champion softball team.

First responders from Colchester, Winooski and St. Michael’s College joined in the fun, as did the public works department.

Lt. Roger Fisher of the Colchester Police Department highlighted some of the other events of the day on either end of the parade.

“There was a fun run I believe this morning, Parks and Rec sets that up every year. We had a fun run, then the parade and then the fireworks,” Fisher explained. “We have a fireworks celebration tonight at dusk — around 9:00 or 9:30. There’ll be a lot of traffic, but it’ll be a good time, every year it’s a really good show.”

The fireworks show will take place at Bayside Park, and will feature a live band and food vendors.
