Benton County Sheriff Arrests Burglary Suspect
On July 16, 2024 at 1:16 PM, Benton County Central Dispatch was notified of a disturbance at 34154 Highway 65, a rural Warsaw address. The owner of the property and his employee were returning after work to find a stranger trying to drive away in the employee’s truck. Luckily, there was a pipe fence obstructing the get away path and their incoming vehicle was blocking the driveway. The suspect, later identified as Lance Joseph Parker, 33 of Marble Falls, Arkansas abandoned the stolen truck and fled into the foliage beyond the residence. The property owner discovered Parker’s Dodge truck concealed inside his garage.

Earlier this afternoon, the Benton County Sheriff's Office issued a short press release stating that law enforcement was looking for an individual who attempted to steal a truck from 34154 Highway 65. Thanks to the release being posted on the Facebook page of the Benton County MO Sheriff's Office, the person was apprehended.

Fire destroys shop at Benton County campground for military members, first responders
Multiple fire departments respond to a fire that destroys a shop at a Benton County campground. The Warsaw Fire Protection District says crews responded to a fire alarm at Camp OBR on Golden Acres Road last night. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the eaves of the shop building. Though the fire appeared small at first, once the shop doors opened, the fire rapidly grew, threatening other structures.

A recent study found over 11,000 guns in Missouri were reported stolen over a five-year stretch, which causes concern for safety officials in St. Joseph as well. A study that was released by the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms traced stolen weapons from 2017 through 2021 and found that over 11,000 were reported stolen in Missouri.

Firefighters were busy Tuesday as heavy storms rolled through the area causing extensive damage. The National Weather Service placed the area on flood watch at 9:30 a.m. and issued a flash flood warning at 12:30 p.m. The agency also issued a tornado warning around 11:30 a.m., and reported a tornado northwest of Treloar around 11:34 a.m. The Missourian weather gauge recorded 3.65 inches of rain during Tuesday’s downpour.
