Villager escapes prosecution in shoplifting case at Walmart
A Villager has escaped prosecution in a shoplifting case after successfully completing an anti-theft course. Karon Rae Stockman, 68, of the Village of St. James, will not face prosecution on the theft charge, according to an announcement of no information earlier this month in Sumter County Court. Stockman had been allowed to enter into a pre-trial intervention contract which required her to complete a four-hour anti-theft course and to complete a weekend of work detail in Sumter County.
District Office offers detailed plan for two-week tunnel closure in The Villages
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, July 22, through approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 Tunnel M-18 will undergo maintenance. Tunnel M-18 is located north of the intersection of Morse Boulevard and Meggison Road. The maintenance will require periodic closures to the tunnel, multi-modal transportation paths, and single-lane closures on Morse Boulevard for the two-week duration of this project. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On July 31, 2024, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) will begin implementing legislation that amends Florida Statute 322.14 (1)(a) and requires the distinguishing numbers assigned to a driver license or identification card to include at least four randomly generated numbers. Officials reluctant to force couple to remove protective fence
Officials in The Villages can’t seem to find an answer as a couple in The Villages fights to keep their protective fence. Peter and Nancy Blackmore of the Village of Caroline erected the stockade fence more than a decade ago on The Villages’ eastern front. Their home backs up to Cherry Lake Road. At first, they hoped to block out noise from traffic. They added “K-9 on Duty,” signs to deter potential foot traffic from wandering in from the increasingly busy roadway. Now the massive Hammock Oaks development across Cherry Lake Road will soon be home to thousands of new Lady Lake residents.
