Review: TICK, TICK… BOOM! at The Carnegie
This past Friday evening on July 19th, The Carnegie in Covington, Kentucky opened their latest show of the 2024 summer theatre season. By the end of the night, this new production Jonathan Larson’s musical Tick, Tick… Boom! was met with a huge positive reaction. Written by the man who would go on to pen the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent just a few years later, Tick, Tick… Boom! takes a look at themes from Larson’s own life and presents them in a semi-autobiographical fashion. After Larson’s death in 1996, acclaimed playwright David Auburn reconstructed the original one-man show into a fully fledged, multi-character musical that went on to premiere Off-Broadway in 2001. As a result, the foreshadowing within the show is apparent when considering his future theatrical tour de force, as well as the heartbreak of his unexpected passing during the process of said project.

Report: Reds entering “selling” mode at the trade deadline
The Cincinnati Reds were just swept by the Washington Nationals to begin the second half of the regular season. That dropped their record for 47-53, which is only better than two teams in the National League – the Colorado Rockies and the Miami Marlins. With four consecutive losses and time running out, Jon Morosi of MLB Network is reporting that the front office has indicated to other teams around the league that they are willing to trade players who are on expiring contracts.
Bengals great Willie Anderson has interesting take on Hall of Fame
Cincinnati Bengals great Willie Anderson has yet to enter the Hall of Fame despite being a finalist for three consecutive years. Interestingly, Anderson equates some of the issue to the long-running reputation that left tackle is more important than the right side — an idea helped along by “The Blind Side” movie starring Sandra Bullock.
