One First-Place Vote In AP Top 25 Went To A Team Other Than Georgia Or Ohio State

The preseason AP Top 25 was released on Monday. The Georgia Bulldogs held the No. 1 spot, followed closely by the Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 2.

The Oregon Ducks ranked No. 3, but Dan Lanning's team was the only other program outside of UGA and OSU to receive a first-place vote in the preseason poll.

In the ballot of Action Network's Brett McMurphy, he listed the Ducks as his No. 1 ranked program, followed by Georgia and Ohio State.

The Ducks enter the 2024 college football season as one of the Big Ten conference's four new members; entering the nation's oldest conference alongside former Pac-12 counterparts Washington, USC, and UCLA.

Oregon dramatically improved its roster through the offseason transfer portal. The transfer portal haul is highlighted by quarterback Dillon Gabriel joining alongside wide receiver Evan Stewart and cornerback Jabbar Muhammad.

McMurphy's top ten rankings appeared as follows:

No. 2: Georgia
No. 3: Ohio State
No. 4: Texas
No. 5: Alabama
No. 6: Ole Miss
No. 7: Penn State
No. 8: Miami (FL)
No. 9: Notre Dame
No. 10: Utah

A notable exclusion from McMurphy's top 10 is the defending national champion Michigan Wolverines, who he ranked No. 17 on his ballot. Michigan ranked No. 9 in the official AP Top 25.

McMurphy's rankings differed slightly from the official one. The most notable was having Oregon at No. 1 and Michigan at No. 17, but he also had Florida State - who officially ranks No. 10 - all the way down at No. 15.
