Just weeks before the start of the 2024 college football season, the Louisville Cardinals were dealt a significant blow as top wide receiver Caullin Lacy suffered a broken collarbone.

Lacy was injured in the last scrimmage of fall camp and is expected to miss an extended period of time. He was one of the Cardinals' top offseason transfer portal additions after recording 91 receptions for 1,316 yards and seven touchdowns with the South Alabama Jaguars last season.

Lacy was widely expected to serve as head coach Jeff Brohm's top receiver option this fall. Lacy's excellent 2023 stats made him a top candidate to replace last season's leading receiver Jamari Thrash, who had 63 receptions for 858 yards and six touchdowns.

With the injury to Lacy, Chris Bell is expected to take on a bigger role along with Alabama transfer Ja'Corey Brooks. Bell is a returning player for the program and finished last season as the second-leading receiver.

The program opens its 2024 campaign by hosting the Austin Peay Governors on Aug. 31 at noon (ET), airing on the ACC Network.
