Illinois State is a solid team coming into the season with a good offensive front and a great pass rush. Longtime head coach Brock Spack knows what he’s doing, and his team won’t just be a speed bump.

No, the Illinois State running game won’t work.
It averaged close to six yards per carry last year and managed to take over games at times, but that’s not happening against this Hawkeye defensive front.
For all the talk about the improvement of the offense, the defense that was so great over the last few seasons should be every bit as strong, if not better. The linebackers are the best in America - Jay Higgins and Nick Jackson will clean up everything - and once again the defenses can all hit.

No, he won’t wing the ball all over the yard, but he’ll be solid, the defense will be great, and like all Iowa games, it’ll be low scoring and yet it’ll always seem like the other side won’t have any shot of coming up with the one big play to take over.
