Washington goes from playing for the national title to starting over. New conference, new head coach, and … no respect. This is still a good team, it should be strong in the Big Ten, and Jedd Fisch is a whale of a head coach.
Weber State will once again be a solid defensive team with a good pass rush, but it’ll take something special offensively to hold up.

Why Weber State Will Win
Yeah, that pass rush really is good.
The Wildcats were among the best in the FCS last season at getting into the backfield with 35 sacks and 72 tackles for loss. Yes, some of the better playmakers are gone, but the team’s style of play should rise up and produce even with the new parts.
Washington’s offensive line isn’t totally starting over, but it’s going through a massive change that needs help from a few transfers right away.
Why Washington Will Win
The Washington offense will look and play a little different than the fans are used to.
It won’t bomb away like it did with Michael Penix Jr. under center, but Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers should be able to negate the Weber State pass rush with a flew of midrange throws to keep things moving.
On the other side, Stephen Belichick’s defense - yes, Bill’s son - has a loaded linebacking corps that should eat up everything the Wildcats try to do on the ground.
Washington vs Weber State: Who Will Win
This will hardly be a total wipeout.
Weber State is good enough to keep this from getting too far out of hand, but it won’t have the offensive punch to keep up after Washington scores on its first few drives.
No one will assume from this game that the Dawgs are destined to go play for the national title again this season, but it’ll be a good kickoff to the new era.
