Texas vs Colorado State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

Alright, Texas. You’re in the SEC now, everyone thinks you’re 'back' and good at college football again, and the hype is off the charts.
This should be another huge season with the ability to do something significant with the College Football Playoff opportunity this time around.
But Colorado State could be dangerous. It nearly pulled off a shocker against Colorado last year, it's returning stronger, and it has just enough of a passing game and a solid starting 22 to make this a game worth keeping an eye on.
Texas vs Colorado State Preview
Texas vs Colorado State How to Watch Date: Saturday, August 31, 2024 Game Time: 3:30 pm ET Venue: DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX How to Watch: ESPN 2023 Records: Texas (12-2), Colorado State (5-7) - Week 1 Schedule, Predictions
Why Colorado State Will Win
Shhhhhhhhhh. You’re not supposed to say stuff like this in public for fear of being mocked and ridiculed, but Colorado State might have the more dangerous passing game in this matchup, and…
Tory Horton might be the best wide receiver on the field.
The future NFL deep threat deserves the full and undivided attention of the Texas defense, and QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi will likely throw for close to 300 yards as he pushes the ball all over the field.
Okay, okay… Colorado State doesn’t have the talent or offense that Texas has, but the one slight concern—and that might be too strong a word—could be a Longhorn secondary that was regularly shredded for 285 or more passing yards over the last nine games last year.
But…
Why Texas Will Win
Fowler-Nicolosi will throw for a gajillion yards and keep pressing, but he’ll also throw a few picks. He gave up 16 last season, and he’ll have to force a few things to try to keep up.
The Colorado State defense won’t have the pass rush it enjoyed last season.
The run defense will get pushed around a bit—the linebackers aren’t quite there—and even with all the issues concerning Texas running back health this offseason, the offensive balance will be there.
Texas vs Colorado State: Who Will Win
Texas will win - it’ll come up with a big scoring burst to push ahead just enough to not worry - but Colorado State won’t make this light and breezy.
There will be just enough for Longhorn fans to be a wee bit grouchy, but the Ram defense won’t be able to hold up once Quinn Ewers and the midrange passing game gets going.
Expect a lot of fireworks and a lot of fun - and a lot of big Texas plays to set the tone for next week’s trip to Ann Arbor.
