Why Richmond Will Win
The Spider defense was amazing at getting into the backfield throughout last year and should be every bit as good again.
It’s among the best in the FCS in tackles for loss, brings the pressure from all angles, and was outstanding against the run. It’s all expected to continue.
The Virginia offensive front had a whole slew of problems and isn’t a lock to be a rock. It couldn’t get the ground game going, the pass protection wasn’t there, and …
Why Virginia Will Win
The Spiders might have a defense, but the offense is very, very questionable.
It wasn’t just the inability to get the ground game going, it was all the turnovers. Lots and LOTS of turnovers.
Virginia lost five games last season by a touchdown or less thanks to all of its mistakes, and it should at least be even with Richmond in this.
More importantly overall, the Virginia defense has to be a whole lot better and more destructive than it was last season, and this is exactly the offense to crank up the live reps needed.

Don’t expect anything gorgeous here.
Richmond will be decent enough to keep Virginia’s offense from going off, but it won’t be enough to pull this off. Don’t worry about aesthetics - the Cavaliers will take the easy W.
