Why North Dakota Will Win
Again, the Fighting Hawks don’t screw up.
It’s a well-coached team that won’t get hit with a ton of penalties, doesn’t turn the ball over, and with great special teams. They have a new starting quarterback and several new parts, but as long as they continue to be sharp, they’ll be in this.
Iowa State was 5-0 when it didn’t turn the ball over and was 2-5 when it gave it away at least once.
Why Iowa State Will Win
The Cyclone defense will be every bit as strong as last year’s version.
The secondary is loaded even without S TJ Tampa, the linebacking corps is fantastic, and just about everyone is back up front. The Fighting Hawks are more about efficiency than explosion, and that might not work here.
The North Dakota defense won’t bring a ton of pressure, and Iowa State will be more than happy to get grinding right away and control the tempo and the clock.

Iowa State is happy playing relatively low scoring, tough games, and in this it’ll be able to keep on pushing as it steadily keeps forging ahead.
It might not seem like a blowout, but Iowa State will be in control even when the score is tight.
