Week 2 College Football Game Subject To Unique Inclement Weather

As Thursday kicks off Week 2 of the 2024 college football season, the Northwestern Wildcats' temporary football field could present a unique weather scenario as the Duke Blue Devils travel to Evanston, Illinois.

According to the weather reports via the National Weather Service , the forecast for Saturday night's game will be around 63 degrees Fahrenheit with winds at 20 miles per hour traveling directly north and gusts up to 29 miles per hour. The wind speed is expected to remain consistent throughout the game, but the concern for potential waterspouts is present throughout the forecast as well.

Tornadic waterspouts are defined as "tornadoes that form over water or move from land to water. They have the same characteristics as a land tornado."

Usually, a waterspout threat would not be a concern for Northwestern, but with the program playing most of its home games from its outdoor practice field on the shores of Lake Michigan while Ryan Field begins reconstruction, their concern is rather legitimate.

As game time approaches, there have not been any potential delays announced related to the impending weather.

The clash between the Wildcats and Blue Devils will kick off from Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium at 9:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on FS1.
