Oregon faces ‘challenging’ 36 hours, fire marshal warns
With high temperatures in the 90s and 100s over much of the state and thunderstorms possible, the Oregon State Fire Marshal is raising the alarm about fire dangers. “The next 24 to 36 hours are going to be extremely challenging with the weather forecast calling for thunderstorms to move across the state,” the office of the Oregon State Fire Marshal posted Saturday. “Red Flag Warnings and Fire Weather Watches are in place for much of the state.”

Air quality alert in effect for Umatilla County Sunday
An air quality alert was issued in effect until Sunday at midnight for Umatilla County. "An Air Quality Advisory for Ozone has been issued. High levels of ozone in the lower atmosphere in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels at times through Saturday evening. Smog and Ozone irritates the eyes, nose and lungs, and contributes to breathing problems. Consult your health care provider if these symptoms worsen," says the National Weather Service.
Police: Machete-wielding man in Ritzville injures officer during arrest
RITZVILLE - In the early hours of July 20, 2024, a dramatic incident unfolded in Ritzville, resulting in the arrest of a local man on multiple charges. At approximately 3:14 AM, Adams County Sheriff dispatch alerted the on-duty Ritzville police officer to a situation in the 200 block of West Second Street. A male subject, identified as 36-year-old Brian Packer Massy of Ritzville, was reported to be carrying a large knife and running towards three individuals in the area after a verbal exchange.
