Before Monday's College World Series game between the Texas A&M and the Tennessee Vols, speculation began that Aggies head coach Jim Schlossnagle could be a strong candidate to take over as the head coach at Texas.

The Longhorns fired head coach David Pierce on Monday morning. And Schlossnagle, who worked with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte at TCU, was immediately mentioned as a potential option for the Longhorns.

After the Aggies' loss to the Vols on Monday in the deciding game of the College World Series, Schlossnagle was asked about the Texas job. And he made it clear that he wasn't happy with the question about his job status.

"I think it's pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you," said Schlossnagle. "But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again. And that hasn't changed in my mind. That's unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking (Braden) Montgomery if he's going to sign in the draft. But I understand you've got to ask the question. But I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job. And I poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I've given this job every ounce I could possibly give it. Write that."

With all the rumors swirling on Monday, someone had to ask the question. And the reporter clearly tried to ask the question in a respectful way.

But at the same time, Schlossnagle had the right to react the way he did. He just lot a national championship and he has a locker room full of kids that are hurting. Regardless of where he coaches next season -- and that's still yet to be determined despite what he said on Monday night -- his players are still his first priority.

Schlossnagle's response, in fact, was reminiscent of Hall of Fame college basketball coach Roy Williams' response to a reporter in 2003 when he had just lost the national championship game as the head coach at Kansas. Williams was asked about the North Carolina job, which led to the legendary head coach saying "I could give a s--t about North Carolina right now".

Williams, who went to college at North Carolina, accepted the UNC job a few days later.

A similar situation could play out for Schlossnagle at Texas A&M. But even if that's the case, on Monday night, it seemed like the Longhorns weren't on his mind at all.
