Lane Kiffin is no stranger to controversy. Ole Miss' head football coach just joined in on the latest drama in college athletics.

Texas announced its decision to hire former Texas A&M head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle less than 24 hours removed from a runner-up finish in the College World Series Final. Schlossnagle's move comes after Texas A&M's best season in program history.

Following the loss, Schlossnagle was asked about the opening at Texas and had this to say: "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Schlossnagle has since apologized to the TexAgs.com reporter who clearly asked a fair question considering the events that immediately followed this press conference.

This level of backstabbing isn't often seen in the college baseball landscape, but as more details emerge the situation looks worse and worse. Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reports that the deal between Texas and Schlossnagle was done behind closed doors during the Aggies' SEC series against Georgia.

It's important to note that Schlossnagle has a close relationship with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte from the pair's time together at TCU. However, that only adds gasoline to the fire in College Station as many feel that Texas was poking around during the season.

Kiffin knows about being the most-hated man on a college campus. It was after the 2009 season when Kiffin left Tennessee at the altar after just one year at the helm in Knoxville before taking the head coaching job at USC. Couches were burned, rocks were painted and hearts were broken as Vols fans were convinced Kiffin was in it for the long haul.

But imagine if Kiffin had bolted for Alabama, Florida or Georgia. Vols fans might have put a bounty out for Kiffin. That's essentially what Schlossnagle did to TAMU by accepting the job at arch-rival Texas.

As the minister of chaos that he is known to be, Kiffin took to X where he replied to Barstool Sports' Kayce Smith, who is also a die-hard Texas A&M fan, to let her know that the emotions Aggies fans are feeling at the moment are valid.

Though he is a master internet troll, Kiffin does have experience in an eerily similar circumstance. Sometimes you just have to let it all out and burn a few couches. That's life in the SEC.
