Texas A&M vaults up recruiting rankings with 4-star commitment

The new era of Texas A&M Aggies football is off to a strong start. At least on the recruiting front.

New head coach Mike Elko has hit the ground running when it comes to recruiting. Along with building out a California pipeline, Elko is continuing to secure top in-state talent despite competition from the likes of the Texas Longhorns.

Kelshaun Johnson is the latest recruit to land in College Station. The in-state wide receiver announced that he would be playing for the Aggies on Tuesday, July 16.

“When I first got there, it felt like home,” Johnson explained to On3 . “The whole staff treated me, my mom and my sister like we belonged there. They really cared for not only me, but also my mom and my sister.”

A 4-star receiver, Johnson has a slighter frame at 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds. However, it's his top-end play speed that drew so much attention from top colleges like Texas A&M.

"Very well may be too good with the ball in his hands to keep him away from offense," 247Sports scout Gabe Brooks wrote. "Flashes twitchy, creative run-after-catch ability with sudden redirecting explosion. Good get-off at the line coupled with impressive acceleration. Simply faster than his foes at the TXHSFB small-school level."

Johnson's commitment helps the Aggies skyrocket up recruiting rankings. Originally the 17th-ranked class for 2025, Elko's squad has suddenly found itself with the No. 6 class in the country .

Players are starting to flock to College Station again. Now Elko needs to make sure he's producing results that his predecessor in Jimbo Fisher was unable to get.
