Where Do Texas A&M Aggies Pivot to After Losing Out on Five-Star Safety?

You can't win them all, and the Texas A&M Aggies got some bad news on the recruiting trail over the weekend.

Highly touted five-star safety Trey McNutt out of Shaker Heights, Ohio chose the Oregon Ducks over both the Aggies and Ohio State . While McNutt was long seen as likely Oregon bound, a pushed back commitment date and a final visit last weekend to College Station made it appear that Mike Elko and his staff still had a shot at landing his pledge.

Alas, it's the Ducks for McNutt and Texas A&M now must turn the page and try to land the next recruit. Specifically at the safety position, the Aggies could land a pretty phenomenal consolation prize.

Ball High School (Galveston, TX) superstar and a top-ten recruit in the entire nation in hybrid linebacker/safety Jonah Williams also has the Aggies near the top of his list. While Elko will have to fight off Dan Lanning and Oregon once again to secure Williams, winning the battle would be absolutely massive.

Steve Wiltfong of On3 spoke last week on Texas A&M and Williams, saying that while he originally gave the Aggies his prediction, both Oregon and LSU are beginning to make him nervous on that prediction.

"There was a time that I thought Texas A&M emerged as a leader following several visits in the spring, but LSU when you talk to sources around this recruitment is in the top two or three. Oregon is a program where there were some positive vibes coming out of his official visit in June...I’m sitting on my Texas A&M pick, but I’m a little worried about it," Wiltfong said .

Williams is due to announce his commitment on August 24.
