Former Bachelorette contestant James Taylor was arrested and subsequently released this week on charges of assault and unlawful restraint.

The reality star turned country musician was arrested on Aug. 4 by the College Station Police Department in connection with warrants from the Bryan Police Department regarding charges for assault causing bodily injury and unlawful restraint. Both pertained to an alleged incident on April 24. He was released on the same day on two $4,000 bonds, one for each charge.

Taylor had previously been detained in College Station for driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon charges in 2022, per People .

The reality TV alum told the outlet this week that there was “not so much as a scratch on me (as I showed to police via pictures of my whole body which was awkward to say the least)” following the alleged incident. “I’m a pretty big guy but I was trying to ‘unlawfully restrain’ a girl and she just … got away?… and walked right to her Uber right outside my house? With NO injuries? Trust me, if there were ANY injuries they’d be all over the internet .”

Though the details of the incident were not made public, Taylor’s statement mentioned a daughter. “I don’t know the daughter’s name because we didn’t spend much time together but I feel like she wouldn’t want all this to have gotten here either if she could go back,” he said. “And I don’t hate you either. I just wish I knew where you were coming from and where this came from.”

He added, “To people reading this: If you want fame, it never ends up like that. If you want money, it never ends up like that. If you want to ruin my life, it always ends up like that… keep it up. I would never hurt anybody. I’m nice to EVERY person I meet.”

Taylor competed on 2016’s season 12 of The Bachelorette led by JoJo Fletcher. Years later, show creator Mike Fleiss promounced him “officially exiled” from Bachelor Nation after Taylor, an outspoken advocate for Donald Trump, encouraged his social media followers to attend the Jan. 6 insurrections. Taylor’s Instagram bio now includes the line, “exiled from bachelor nation.”
