2024 IHSBCA High School Baseball Week Seven Rankings
(Council Bluffs, IA) – The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association has released its week seven baseball rankings as we head to the end of the 2024 high school baseball regular season. These rankings are determined by a rankings committee headed by IHSAA Assistant Director Andy Umthun and will be utilized by the IHSAA office for postseason assignments to determine state tournament seeding. Our local schools in Class 1A include Logan-Magnolia, Tri-Center, and Woodbine all as honorable mentions. For teams in Class 2A, Des Moines Christian sits at #2, Underwood moves down to #3, Van Meter remains in the top five at #4, and Clarinda stays at their #9 ranking, while Interstate-35 is still ranked as an honorable mention. For Class 3A, North Polk still is #1, Bondurant-Farrar ranks at #9, and Harlan still is listed as an honorable mention. You can find all the rankings below.

AGWSR Baseball goes 2-0 at Colo-Nesco Tournament
The AGWSR baseball team picked up two much-needed wins at a tournament at Colo-Nesco Saturday. The Cougars defeated Rockford 6-0 and the hosts 8-3 in eight innings. Against Rockford, the Cougars scored twice each in the second, sixth and seventh innings, earning their first shutout win of the season. Trace Eiten led offensively with two hits. Ryne Pickering was the winning pitcher with one strikeout, two walks and three hits in four innings pitched. Tristen Dennis and Kingston Holman also pitched.

Iowa State Incoming Freshman Dwayne Pierce Stepping Away from Cyclone Program
(Ames, IA) – Iowa State incoming freshman, Dwayne Pierce, has announced that he is stepping away from the Cyclone men’s basketball team for personal reasons. The now-former Cyclone signed on to play at Iowa State on January 22, 2023, and would’ve been entering his first season at Iowa State University. The Christ the King High School player helped to lead his team to a 22-6 overall record and 12-3 in conference play while in high school. According to ESPN, Pierce was ranked with an 82 scout grade as a small forward. He chose Iowa State over other schools including Clemson, Florida State, Illinois, Memphis, and St. John’s.

2024 College Football Preseason Top 25
25-21 25. Iowa State Cyclones. In a year were plenty of players were ineligible due to a gambling investigation, Iowa State went 7-6. They have nine returning starters on each sides of the ball. Quarterback Rocco Becht played well as a freshman and he’ll have plenty of good wide receivers and protection to help the offense increase its production. Defensively the experience should help them improve from their 42nd ranking last season.

Baseball (12-13) The past week spelled trouble for the Tigers, going 0-3 in a three game stretch against conference rivals who got revenge for previous meetings this year. Beating Bondurant-Farrar (18-7) by a score of 4-3 on the first week of June, the Bluejays fought back with a 7-2 win over the Tigers on June 24. Two days later, the Huskies from Winterset (10-12) cruised to a 13-5 win to avenge an 18-1 loss to the Tigers three weeks earlier. And lastly, Carlisle (8-17) notched a 2-1 victory in extras for redemption over their previous one-run loss to the Tigers.
