The fire appeared to start at 3 a.m. when an oil stove spilled its fuel and quickly engulfed the May residence and livery stable. Then the flames made short work of the Loomis Hotel, F.W. Turner's properties (post office, Wells Fargo office, and a newsstand), H.M. Plaus Drug Store, Dr. E. Ostrom's office. H.M. Branstetter Grocery, Rochdale's Store, Baradoni's Butcher Shop, Misley's Hall, Bank of Loomis, Andrew Taylor's Millenary Store, Union Ice Company and Charles Coburn's Cobbler Shop.
