National Donut Day specials in Colorado Springs

(Colorado Springs, CO) National Donut Day is Friday, June 7th.

The Salvation Army began the annual celebration in 1938 to honor the "Donut Lassies," female volunteers who supported American troops on the frontlines during World War I.

The "Donut Lassies" would fry donuts in the soldier's helmets, which provided a much-needed morale boost to the battle-weary troops.

Now, every first Friday in June, we honor the "Donut Lassies" and the treat that provided a taste of home to our service members who were far away.

Several Colorado Springs donut shops are celebrating National Donut Day with specials.

Amy's Donuts will be giving out free blueberry cake holes. No purchase is necessary. There are two locations in Colorado Springs.

• South store: 2704 E. Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs
• North store: 3765 Bloomington Street, Colorado Springs
• Friday hours for both locations are 5:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Krispy Kreme is giving everyone a free donut on June 7th - no purchase necessary (excluding limited-time-only donuts). The franchise is also offering a $2 Original Glazed dozen with the purchase of any dozen.

• Friday hours are 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Dunkin' Donuts is offering a free classic donut with any beverage purchase. There are nine Colorado Springs locations. Go here to find the one closest to you.

Shipley Do-Nuts will offer a free donut with any purchase on Friday, June 7th. There are two locations in Colorado Springs/Fountain.

Hurts Donut will donate 10% of all donut sales on June 7th to Victory Service Dogs.
