(Colorado Springs, CO) The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo recently had an unexpected visitor - an orphaned black bear cub.

The zoo shared in a social media post that the cub climbed a tree on zoo property and has been sleeping in the tree for the past few weeks.

On Thursday, July 11th, zoo staff and personnel from Colorado Parks and Wildlife safely removed the black bear cub from the tree.

He had a medical check-up, and he is in good health.

According to the zoo's post, the little guy was transported to a rehabilitation facility.

In the fall, when it is time for bears to take a long winter's nap, the cub will be released to a man-made den.

The hope is that he will emerge in the spring as a mature bear who is better equipped to care for himself in the wild.

The bear cub is no longer at the zoo, but there are plenty of other resident bears to visit. The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is the place to be this summer!
