(Colorado Springs, CO) The Flying W Ranch is a 1450-acre working cattle ranch on the west side of Colorado Springs. It is one of the last remaining original ranches in Colorado.

The ranch was originally the Douglas homestead, and the land was purchased in 1947 by Don Wilson. It has been family-owned and operated since then and is known for its fantastic chuckwagon supper and dinner show.

The first chuckwagon supper was served in 1953 to eleven guests who paid $3 each for a scenic horseback ride and a home-cooked meal around an open fire.

Seventy-one years later, the Flying W Ranch is still welcoming guests.

The ranch has a beautiful setting with mountain views and sandstone rock formations throughout the property.

The gates open at 5:00 p.m., and guests with dinner show tickets can explore the scenic grounds for an hour and a half before the meal.

There are plenty of activities: ranch animals, a small train, a horse-drawn carriage, yard games, cattle roping demonstrations, a hike up Christmas Rock, archery, and ax throwing.

All of the activities are included in the ticket price.

The dinner bell rings at 6:30, and it's time to eat.

The meal is smoked brisket, chicken, baked potato with butter & sour cream, Flying W trail beans, chunky applesauce, a Dutch oven biscuit with butter and honey, and spice cake for dessert.

The portions are generous, and seconds are available.
