WATCH: Curious dog starts fire in Colorado home after turning on stovetop

The Colorado Springs Fire Department reports that a home fire that took place in the early morning hours of June 26 was started by the family dog – and they've got the video footage to prove it.

According to the fire department, crews were dispatched to the home at about 4:43 a.m. Once they arrived at the scene, there was no visible smoke or fire, as the fire had already been put out by one of the homeowners.

That homeowner was later transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.

Things got interesting, however, when the family looked through security footage to see what started the blaze.

The video captured a curious pup accidentally turning the stovetop on, which had boxes on top of it.

The fire department reminded the public to keep flammable objects away from stove tops and ovens, even when they're not in use. And remember – right now is the right time to check if your smoke detectors work. Keep smoke detectors in every room and check them regularly.
