First Friday in July features AI prompt for artists

(COLORADO SPRINGS) The First Friday in downtown Colorado Springs for the 4th of July weekend will showcase new art exhibits, live music, and a special chance to look back at history.

First Friday is a free and public event to showcase local art in Colorado Springs and happens on the first Friday of every month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at various locations downtown.

According to the Downtown Partnership, for July, First Friday will feature ‘Ghost in the Machine,’ a showcase of art created by local artists following a prompt generated by AI. The AI program Gemini was asked to create an art prompt that “proves the need and value of the human artist in our culture.” The prompt returned was to create a piece of art that explored the physical manifestation of emotion. The art will be displayed at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts.

The Fine Arts Center will feature the work of Kevin Shinelikar Persaud. According to the Downtown Partnership, Persaud studies identity through expressionist abstract paintings he calls double-conscious jazz. The Fine Arts Center will have free admission during First Friday.

The Money Museum located at 818 North Cascade Avenue will feature the Americana Gallery which will feature rare uncut money sheets, 1855 Wass, Molitor & Company $50 California Territorial Gold piece, and guests can see how coins are made with a mini mint demonstration.
