    Nine people displaced in apartment fire, three cats die

    (COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) responded to a structure fire at an apartment on Saturday, July 6, around 10: 30 p.m. at the 1300 block of West Kiowa Street, near North 14th Street. The fire left nine people displaced and three cats dead.

    According to CSFD, smoke was reported from the basement apartment of a Victorian house that had been converted into six units. Eight adults and one child were displaced due to the fire.

    One person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and two others were evaluated and refused further care. According to CSFD, three cats were found, but none survived.

    CSFD is investigating the cause of the fire, which is unknown at this time. The Red Cross is helping those displaced from their homes.
