Owner of stolen truck shoots at suspected thief, kidnaps passenger

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Two people were arrested on Wednesday morning, July 10, after a truck owner located his stolen truck, fired a gun at the suspected thief, and then kidnapped a woman from the passenger seat in an attempt to follow the thief.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), officers responded just before 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Wooten Road, near the intersection with East Platte Avenue.

When officers arrived, they heard from numerous witnesses and obtained video surveillance that revealed a suspect had fired shots at one victim and then forcefully kidnapped a passenger from a truck.

CSPD said it was later determined that the suspects tracked their stolen truck to the scene at Wooten and Platte, and once they arrived, a disturbance occurred between them and the suspected thief. The owner of the stolen truck chased the man from his truck and then fired a gun at him. CSPD said it appeared that no one was hit by the gunfire.

After the suspected thief ran away, the truck’s owner kidnapped a woman passenger from the truck, and made her show him potential locations of the car theft suspect that had run away.

CSPD pulled information from databases and found the suspects and the kidnapping victim in the 3500 block of Ironwood Place, near South Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road. CSPD said two suspects were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
