(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Garden of the Gods Park announced on Thursday, July 11 it will be getting new safety features this upcoming Fall.

Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services, in collaboration with Colorado Springs Utilities, the Colorado Springs Fire Department, and the Office of Accessibility will begin a waterline project in September that will enhance safety and accessibility within the Garden of the Gods Park.

The project will involve the installation of 8,000 feet of new waterline and multiple fire hydrants to improve emergency response capabilities by ensuring a readily available source for firefighters.

It will also improve restroom facilities and the user experience by ensuring a reliable water supply for restrooms within the park.

Additional improvements will also be made to enhance accessibility with the creation of a fully accessible parking lot and ADA-compliant trails in the Central Garden. Approximately 3,200 feet of asphalt will be replaced to provide accessible parking nearer to the Central Gardens and a more sustainable, accessible concrete trail will replace the current one leading to the garden.

The newest trails will address and correct excessive slopes to provide a more easily navigable route between the two locations for those with disabilities.

“As we begin this project in Garden of the Gods Park, we want to emphasize our commitment to preserving this natural treasure for future generations,” said Anna Cordova, Manager of Garden of the Gods Park. “We are grateful for the community’s patience and support as we work to improve the park in a way that ensures its beauty and accessibility is maintained for all to enjoy. Together, we are taking important steps to safeguard this iconic destination while enhancing safety and inclusivity for all visitors.”

Work on the project is expected to begin in September, and construction will be performed in four phases that are anticipated to be completed by Memorial Day 2025. Archaeological monitoring will be done throughout the project to ensure the preservation of the park.

Garden of the Gods Park will remain open throughout construction. Trail or road closures will be communicated on the website, newsletters, and via social media.
