(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said a three-year-old boy was shot in the leg in what officers describe as a drive-by shooting in the overnight hours of Thursday, July 11.

According to CSPD, on Thursday, at around 10:30 p.m., officers were called to the 3600 block of El Morro Road near South Academy Boulevard and Chelton Road. Police learned a three-year-old boy was shot in the leg multiple times and was taken to the hospital by the boy’s father.

The investigation revealed a white truck with unknown plates drove by the family’s home and fired shots from the street. The father, mother, and boy were asleep in the bedroom of the house when the gunfire struck the boy.

CSPD said the Assault Unit responded to the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
