(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A 75-year-old woman from Colorado Springs died and several others were injured after a crash near Marksheffel Road and North Carefree Circle over the weekend, according to the most recent updates from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).

ORIGINAL COVERAGE: Fatal Crash closes Marksheffel at North Carefree Cir.

On Tuesday, July 23, CSP told FOX21 News that on Sunday, July 21 just before 2 p.m., troopers responded to the area of Marksheffel Rd. and North Carefree Cir. regarding a two-car crash.

According to CSP’s investigation, the driver of a Toyota Tacoma that was going northbound on Marksheffel Rd. allegedly failed to negotiate a temporary curve in the road due to ongoing construction before the truck hit a concrete barrier and crossed into the southbound lanes where it collided head-on with a Honda Pilot. Both vehicles, according to troopers, rotated counter-clockwise before coming to a rest in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, according to CSP, was a 41-year-old woman from Colorado Springs who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A seven-year-old passenger was also hospitalized with minor injuries and both were wearing their seatbelts.

Troopers told FOX21 that a 75-year-old woman from Colorado Springs was driving the Honda Pilot and was taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries. A nine-year-old passenger, who was in a forward-facing child seat at the time of the crash, suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital. The driver, according to CSP, was wearing her seatbelt.

CSP continues to investigate but according to troopers, alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed are not considered factors in the crash.
