(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Springs Rescue Mission received more than 5,000 pounds of meat on Wednesday, July 24, thanks to a local non profit and the hard work of young people in El Paso County.

Through the dedicated efforts of local 4-H and FFA youth, and the generous support of buyers at the El Paso County Fair Junior Livestock Sale, local nonprofit Protein 4 Helping Others (P4HO) donated over 5,000 pounds of meat protein to the Springs Rescue Mission.

The donations on Wednesday will serve as needed food for the Rescue Mission, which also uses the entire animal to teach culinary skills.

“When it comes to the Rescue Mission, we get a lot of donations that maybe aren’t local and maybe don’t represent this community,” said Tyler Peoples with Springs Rescue Mission. “But this donation represents a local community coming together and bringing healthy protein that’s really going to make a difference. When you eat well, you feel well, and that’s what we want and that’s what this represents.”

Staff from the Rescue Mission said this donation of wholesome protein will go a long way toward helping feed the unhoused, who need it the most.
