    Wednesday's news

Colorado Springs resident Sarah Hildebrandt withstood an opponent change and captured Olympic gold in freestyle wrestling.

Hledebrandt, who captured bronze in the 2020 Tokyo games, defeated Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 3-0 in the final of the 50 kg division Wednesday.

She was slated to wrestle India’s Vinesh Phogat, but Phogat failed to make weight and was disqualified. That thrust Guzman Lopez, who had lost to Phogat in the semifinals, into the gold-medal match.

Hildebrandt, 30, has lived in Colorado Springs since 2015.

Amit Elor, 20, who lives and trains part-time in Colorado Springs, had captured gold the day before when she defeated Meerim Zhumanazarova of Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in the 68 kg final and became the youngest American wrestler of any gender or discipline to win gold.

    - Broomfield’s Colin Duffy sits in seventh place in climbing’s boulder & lead competition, qualifying for the finals.

Duffy scored 33.8 points in boulder, placing 11th, and 54.1 points in lead, placing sixth.

He is the lone American to advance in the competition.
