Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) declared she believes President Joe Biden is responsible for the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally.

In an interview with Denver NBC affiliate KUSA, the Colorado congressman denounced “rhetoric from the Left” — specifically a comment last week from the president in which his said “it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.”

“I believe that much of the rhetoric from the Left has escalated to this moment,” Boebert said. “Just last week, we saw Joe Biden trying to excuse his poor performance at the debate and, get that behind him and say, now we need to put Trump in a bullseye.”

According to Politico, Biden told donors, “I have one job, and that’s to beat Donald Trump. I’m absolutely certain I’m the best person to be able to do that. So, we’re done talking about the debate, it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.”

KUSA anchor Kyle Clark followed up by asking Boebert: “Do you believe that President Joe Biden bears any responsibility for what happened today? Or does the responsibility for the shooting lie with the shooter?”

“I do believe that Joe Biden is responsible for the shooting today,” Boebert said. She added, “Everyone who has called him a fascist. Everyone who has called him a threat to democracy, who said that he should be put in a bullseye as Joe Biden said? They need to have some very deep reflection tonight before another tragedy like this takes place.”

Clark then cited Boebert’s own political rhetoric and asked: “Have you given any thought to that about things that you say and how it might contribute to the heated political environment?”

“Nothing I have ever said has incited violence,” Boebert said. “I am not calling for the death of someone. I’m not telling people who follow me to put another political opponent in a bullseye. There is no place for political violence in America. I completely am opposed to that. And I do not condone anyone who would call for any sort of political violence.”
