Kalispell couple facing 30 years in federal prison
MISSOULA, Mont. — A Kalispell couple facing fraudulent charges appeared in a federal courtroom in Missoula on Tuesday. Mistie Lynn Knapton and Travis Ray Knapton are facing up to 30 years in federal prison. One count of conspiracy to defraud the United States. One count of social security fraud.
Kids rule too in Best of Whitefish
Eight-year-old Poppy George stood out amongst older folks, placing second in the Best of Whitefish Best Athlete category. George said her mantra is, “I believe in myself. I believe in my team. I believe in God.” George has been a martial arts student at SBG Gym for three years and has a gray/black belt. She also plays soccer with Glacier Surf and her soccer team brought home the gold in their latest home competition, the 3 Blind Refs tournament at the KidSport Complex in Kalispell. The annual tournament is the largest in Montana with over 180 teams coming in from Montana, Idaho, Washington and Canada. Aided by her teammates’ awesome performances, George helped her team score two goals for the win. Among George’s accolades is Mutton Busting Champion, as she competed at the Montana Longhorn Company's Mutton Busting Championship. Awesome Setting for New Northwest Montana Public Archery Range
Just across the road from a state park that lies on the shores of one of Montana's jewels, its opening has been officially announced. Yep. The result of a project that's been in the works for a period of time is that archery shooters now have a new range along Flathead Lake. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has completed development of its public archery range at the Big Arm Unit of Flathead Lake State Park. FWP recently hosted a grand opening ceremony with Governor Greg Gianforte, members of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Natural Resources Department and Tribal Council, and members of the Dayton Elementary School archery team (more on that shortly).

Strong Drying Winds May Hasten the Chance of Montana Wildfires

Beach Boys set to perform next month at Kalispell's Northwest Montana Fair & Rodeo
KALISPELL, Mont. - The Northwest Montana Fair announced Tuesday that the famous Beach Boys will perform at the fair on August 13. "The Beach Boys are one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. Between the 1960s and today, the group had over 80 songs chart worldwide," a release from the fair states.
Locals Seguine and Jacobs win Whitefish Lake Triathlon
The Whitefish Lake Triathlon hosted 165 athletes on Saturday from 13 states and one Canadian province. The annual event returned after being canceled last summer due to wildfire. For the classic sprint event, athletes swam a 1/2 mile in Whitefish Lake starting at City Beach, then biked 12.4 miles up Wisconsin Avenue and East Lakeshore Drive before finishing with a 3.1 mile run.Whitefish locals represented well, taking the top overall male and female spots.Reigning 2022 champion Ryan Seguine, 44, finished first in 1 hour, 7 minutes and 41 seconds. Polson’s Matt Seeley, 53, was just off the winning pace, taking second place with a 1:09:14. Whitefish’s Tony Schiller, 66, placed third at 1:16:28.Overall female winner Carrie Jacobs, 43, of Whitefish, finished in 1 hour, 20 minutes and 34 seconds. 18-year-old Isabel Seeley of Polson was the first 18-and-under female and the second female overall, crossing the finish at 1:22:42. She was followed by Malia Seeley, 24, in third place.13-year-old Bentley Togo of Lethbridge, Alberta placed first in the male 18 and under division.The top team was Jessica Craig and Wendy Sequine at 1:17:11.Full results are available at competitivetiming.com/wlt/#unique-id-2024.
