Let's put the bad news out there first; as most people know, Illinois has a strict law that bans most consumer fireworks. Here's a refresher, just in case you need it.
Former Oiler Jayden Ulrich makes Olympics in discus
21-year old Jayden Ulrich from East Alton (IL) has qualified for the USA track and field national team for the 2024 Paris Olympics this summer in the discus throw event. Ulrich finished 2nd in the discus throw at the U.S. Olympic team trials last week. Her 2nd place throw was 62.63m (205-feet, 5-inches).

Many in the crowd that gathered for the annual Grand Pride Parade on Market Street in downtown St. Louis on Sunday, June 30, were surprised when a group of activists, some affiliated with Resist STL, began to protest Boeing, the lead sponsor of the Pride STLPride Fest 2024 parade. A number of protesters, some with their arms linked through tubes with slogans on them, such as “Black Lives for Palestine,” and “Remember Stonewall” blocked the parade for over an hour while chanting and holding signs proclaiming, "Bombs and war planes are not gay," "Cops out of Pride parade." Self-described as mostly LGBTQIA, the collective, which included five African Americans, protested the war in Gaza and what they consider Boeing’s “pinkwashing” of their production of munitions used by Israel.
2024 Alumni Reunion set for Oct. 10-11
The annual Alumni Reunion for graduates of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis will be held Oct. 10-11 on campus. The 2024 reunion extends a special welcome to members of the jubilarian class of 1974; the silver anniversary class of 1999; and graduates, spouses and widows of alumni from class years ending in “4” or “9.”

NWS says northern Missouri could see large hail and weak tornadoes tonight
The National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis says far northern Missouri could see damaging winds, large hail and weak tornadoes this evening between 6-9 pm. The NWS says northern Missouri towns like Kirksville, Macon, La Plata and Hannibal are at an enhanced risk tonight. While the best chance of severe weather late tonight and overnight will be in north Missouri, the NWS says mid-Missouri could see some storms, but they’re not expected to be severe. NWS St. Louis meteorologist Melissa Byrd tells 939 the Eagle that mid-Missouri could see some storms between 11 pm and 1 am.

I don't know what it is, but my phone has been ringing off the hook nonstop with spam calls and they all come from different area codes. Has it been happening to you, too?. It's so irritating constantly declining calls all day long, especially when I've already flagged and blocked a ton of numbers from continuously re-calling. Obviously not all calls from these area codes are spam, but my phone has been super accurate in flagging those that are either spam or telemarketers trying to make a buck.
Nearly 150 new Illinois ZIP codes added to high-risk lead testing list
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Starting this month, 1-, 2- and 3-year-old children living in nearly 150 communities in Illinois will need their blood screened for lead, a test that wasn't previously required in those parts of the state.The Illinois Department of Public Health announced an expanded list of high-risk ZIP codes this year, including more than a dozen in Cook County, increasing mandatory testing for lead exposure of children who live within those areas. A total of nearly 1,200 ZIP codes in Illinois now are considered high-risk for lead exposure."There is no safe level of lead in the blood," said Illinois...
