Police investigate deadly shooting inside The Mall in Columbia

Howard County Police are investigating a deadly shooting inside The Mall in Columbia on Saturday.

Authorities say it happened shortly after 6 p.m. when officers received a call for gunfire in the area of the food court.

When officers arrived, they confirmed that one man was dead. A preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting may have stemmed from an altercation inside the mall.

According to their report, the suspect(s) involved left the mall property shortly after the shooting.

Authorities say there is no indication of an active shooting and no ongoing threat inside the mall. They are working to evacuate people in an orderly fashion.

Detectives believe the victim was targeted.
