Portion of Business Loop 70 in Columbia to close next week for railroad track removal

Columbia’s city manager will now deliver budget address on July 25
The Columbia city manager’s budget address is being delayed two weeks. City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen says city manager De’Carlon Seewood’s budget address will be delivered on Thursday July 25, instead of the original July 11 date at city hall. Ms. Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that Mr. Seewood wanted to have the most up-to-date numbers, before he presents the budget to the city council at a July 29th work session. Night lane closures ahead on I-70 when expansion project begins next week
Overnight traffic on 7 miles of Interstate 70 will be reduced to one lane in each direction when the statewide highway expansion project begins July 8 east of Columbia. Initial construction will cover the stretch between Route J at Millersburg and Route M at Hatton. Lanes between these exits at mile markers 137 and 144 will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
Overflowing: Water System Woes Stretch Budget
Engineer questions additional costs, time for water utility improvements. After a $43 million bond issue was approved by Columbia voters in 2018, another five years passed before the city’s finance department finalized the sale of the bonds and transferred the funds to the city in October 2023. The bond funds will be used to upgrade the McBaine Water Treatment Plant and restore the plant’s capacity to 32 million gallons of water per day.
