    COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Columbia man died after crashing his motorcycle during a chase with law enforcement early Friday, according to a social media post from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office wrote that Daniel Edwards, 36, died at an area hospital after he hit another vehicle at an intersection, was ejected from the bike and hit a traffic signal pole, the post says.

According to the post, Columbia police notified Boone County Joint Communications that someone on a motorcycle sped away during a traffic stop. A deputy saw the rider near Paris Road and Nelwood Drive and attempted a traffic stop that resulted in a two-minute chase, the post reads.

Edwards then started heading west on Business Loop 70 and didn’t stop at a red light at the intersection with Providence Road, and crashed, the post reads. The other driver in the crash was not injured, the post says.

The Sheriff’s Office wrote that Edwards’ license was revoked and that he allegedly had 2 grams of methamphetamine.

The intersection was closed at 12:30 a.m., according to a Boone County Joint Communications notification. A second notification stated the intersection reopened at 1:15 a.m.

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jenny Hopper wrote in an email that the CPD officer "deactivated his emergency lights after the motorcycle failed to yield, and a traffic stop did not occur. Since this did not meet the criteria of our pursuit policy, the officer did not engage in a pursuit."
