Dawes, Houndmouth, Silversun Pickups lead Columbia concert announcements

A slew of recent concert announcements should please Columbia fans of quality pop and rock. Here's a look at who's coming to local stages, alphabetically by artist:

Chat Pile

The Oklahoma City band has gained a faithful following on the strength of what its own Bandcamp page calls an "abrasive, unrelenting, and outlandish" sound. The band will release a new record, "Cool World," in October, mere weeks before appearing in Columbia. Nov. 2 at The Blue Note with Agriculture and Porcelain; tickets are $23-$45.

Dawes

Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith just might be our best contemporary songwriter under the age of 40. The California band weds Goldsmith's poetic lyrics — by turns, existential and light-hearted — to an increasingly intricate sound that holds appeal for fans of '70s rock, modern indie and even kinder, gentler jam bands. You'll have to wait till spring to catch the band live but a new record, "Oh, Brother," is coming this October. April 19 at The Blue Note with Winnetka Bowling League; tickets are $37-$55.

Houndmouth

The Roots N Blues festival veterans play charismatic indie rock built for the open road. The Indiana-forged band also weaves strains of blues and early rock 'n' roll through their songs, which thread a needle between good-natured and brooding. Oct. 17 at Rose Park; tickets are $27.50-$30.

Ole 60

"Not your father’s country band," this Kentucky outfit's Instagram bio reads. Ole 60 backs up that claim by twining campfire charms, cascading banjos, Southern-rock riffs and huge chorus vocals. Their 2023 EP "three twenty four" was a smash, yielding songs like "smoke & a light," which has been streamed more than 53 million times on Spotify. Oct. 31 at The Blue Note with Cody Powers; tickets are $20-$25.

Silversun Pickups

This Los Angeles band was dinged early on for its sonic similarity to Smashing Pumpkins; all the Pickups have done in response for the past 20 years is churn out consistently meaningful, hazy rock records. Sept. 27 at The Blue Note; tickets are $35-$50.
