UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Mashburn leads $22M revitalization to Columbia park

Engineers: Buford Goff & Associates, Columbia (MEP); Chao & Associates, Columbia (survey, site, structural and civil) Project description: Finlay Park, Columbia’s 18-acre urban park, continues construction as part of a $22 million revitalization project. Plans include retaining the iconic spiral fountain with a newly renovated central pond. LS3P, a subconsultant to Stantec, provided architectural services for the new buildings and renovations, including a stage, splash pad structure, amenity shelter, renovations to the existing ranger station and restroom.

Project description: Originally serving as Columbia’s main post office from 1921 to 1966, this neoclassical style building was acquired by the state for use as the Supreme Court of South Carolina and later listed on the National Register. GMK led the design efforts for various building envelope renovations roof systems, window systems, general exterior waterproofing, and refurbishment in accordance with relevant state historic preservation and local historic preservation guidelines.

The Campus 8 tract consists of Building A (967,680 square feet), Building B (273,000 square feet), and Building C (182,000 square feet), built concurrently. These tilt-wall buildings provide dual road connection points, 40-foot clearance heights, and easy access to the global marketplace via rail, road, sea or air transportation.

Project description: This renovation to a funeral home includes interior and exterior phases. Exterior work includes new steel, landscaping, pavers, masonry modifications and canopies. Trades include concrete, stucco, steel, roofing and landscaping. The offices, lobby, visitation rooms, arrangement rooms, event space, break rooms, restrooms, corridors, chapel, crematorium and embalming rooms are all being renovated. The new floor plan requires HVAC, electrical, plumbing, data and architectural trades.

Project description: Hogan and DP3 have collaborated to provide Design-Build services for the renovation and expansion of the Donaldson Center Fire Station. The existing 1960s fire station will be partially demolished and renovations performed to provide offices, equipment storage, a larger fitness room and a decontamination room. New dorm rooms, a kitchen/dayroom, support areas, a laundry room, and a terrace will all be included in a 4,500-square-foot addition.

A full-court basketball gym will include an elevated walking track with an enclosed indoor slide leading down to the lobby.

Project description: Renovation and repurposing of an existing YMCA Campus in Simpsonville into a new standalone church campus for Fellowship Greenville. When completed, the renovated 37,000-square-foot building will include a new worship space, administrative offices, elementary and middle school student spaces and a nursery addition.
