A general view of a South Carolina Gamecocks helmet.

Lex Cyrus, four-star wide receiver, is from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He's ranked as the No. 8 overall player from the state and by most measures, he was the Penn State Nittany Lions' recruit to lose.

And lose him they did, as Cyrus recently announced his commitment to South Carolina. He's going down south to play for the Gamecocks.

Cyrus told 247Sports that the Gamecocks won out because of their people.

"It was a lot to take in," Cyrus said. "I would say the people there, for sure. From the coaching staff to the team, the trainers, even the students, everybody was so nice. Everybody made the place feel like home. Like, they were genuinely happy to be there."

That's a pretty big hat tip to head coach Shane Beamer, and it's worth noting that many recruits have to be feeling the same way. Beamer's 2025 class has 17 commitments so far and is ranked in the top 30 nationally. As the class continues to build, there's reason to believe the Gamecocks will bring in a very strong class.

Cyrus is expected to be a big part of that. As a junior in high school, he caught 67 passes for 1,115 yards and 13 touchdowns. The 247Sports Composite considers him to be the No. 32 wideout nationally.
