    — Longtime offensive line target Isaac Sowells out of Kentucky is down to a final three of Kentucky, NC State, and South Carolina.

On3’s Steve Wiltfong has submitted an RPM pick in favor of NC State, and we agree with the notion that the Wolfpack are ahead of the Gamecocks right now.

The three-star prospect, likely a center at the next level, will announce his decision on July 18.

    — Another offensive line target who’s been in South Carolina’s crosshairs for a long time is Virginia’s Jaylen Gilchrist .

This is one that, according to what we hear, is more likely than Sowells to go the Gamecocks’ way.

Following the social media accounts of Gilchrist and his mother is an interesting exercise. In our last edition, we pointed out that there’s been some talk of “shocking the world.” There are also some posts that seem to paint Maryland as the favorite.

We’ll also say that, behind the scenes, there have been some signs that are favorable to Shane Beamer’s program.

Gilchrist plans a public announcement on August 3. This is one that we anticipate tracking up until the announcement date.

    — Mike Furrey landed one of his priority wide receiver targets in four-star Lex Cyrus last week.

The attention now turns fully to in-state prospect Malik Clark , who with a commitment would close out the Gamecocks’ high school recruiting efforts at the position.

Clark is down to Florida State, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The latter two are the ones pegged all along as being locked in a battle for the Rock Hill product’s services.

Here’s what Clark told On3’s Steve Wiltfong about Carolina:

“USC is home. Hour down the road from me. Love the game-day environment and Coach (Mike) Furrey is a great guy and coach as well.”

While no firm date is locked in place either publicly or privately, Clark says he’ll announce this month. That matches the information we have also picked up.

The Gamecocks have made a huge push as of late, and I’d currently classify South Carolina as the favorite here.

    — The Gamecocks are also hoping to land four-star safety Lagonza Hayward at the end of the month, and USC appears to be primarily battling the Tennessee Volunteers.

We can tell our members that Hayward’s camp has been engaged plenty with South Carolina as of late, a good sign that Shane Beamer’s squad remains fully in the race.

Hayward plans on announcing his final decision on July 27. As we have said, it would be significant if he would follow through with plans to attend the end-of-month recruiting cookout event slated for July 26.

We still believe Carolina has a real shot to pull this one off, but it’s still an open question as to which program Hayward picks.

    — South Carolina has been in a strong position with four-star EDGE Jared Smith out of Alabama for a while now.

You had to know some of his other suitors were not going to go down without a fight.

GamecockCentral.com has been told that Auburn and Ole Miss have been making runs at Smith as of late, which means Sterling Lucas is going to have to fend off a couple of programs that have been making waves on the recruiting trail.

We still believe that Lucas has the Gamecocks in the best position, but this is one he will have to continue battling to finish. The good news is that Lucas has a strong track record with this type of situation.

    — A bonus note here on a big-time visitor for the Gamecocks’ cookout…

Talented 2026 cornerback Samari Matthews plans on being in town, so add one of the nation’s top defensive prospects to the slate.

We’ll have a complete list of visitors closer to the even date, so stay tuned to GamecockCentral.com.
